Is it important to cycle wear shoes?
Peyton Asked:
I want to start training for a Tri next Summer. I have just (today) been given a light wieght racing bike. I haven't ridden a bike in over twenty five years. I have to start somewhere. Any advice will be gratefully received.
Reply:
From where you are starting, to where you want to go, start without the shoes until you are confident in your riding and stopping skills. Then you must make the leap to be competitive and comfortable in performing well, riding hard, and going the distance.
Wearing cycling shoes that clip you in is like learning to ride a bike. Takes practice, and won't be forgotten once mastered.
And remember to have a great time!

There is no law regarding the wearing of a cycling helmet . . in the UK at any rate.
You may find difficulties in claiming compensation as a result of an accident though! The argument could be one of contributory negligence, but that's down to your solicitor.
EDIT: looking at the above posting has got me on my soapbox! I do not believe in the enforced wearing of cycling helmets, most of us cyclists know the most common injuries are legs, arms and hands. The wearing of a cycle helmet should be made by choice, not cheap scare stories!!!
And yes, as a committed 'Roadie' – I do wear a helmet!
I have just realised that I did not wear a helmet today… as I am getting ready to cycle home. Unsure how that happened.
How about you buy a Shop Service Manual DUMBASS.

Don’t resort to plastic bags: some brands will keep you dry without losing your cool, claims the woman behind Ana Nichoola Women’s cycle wear has received a lot of press in the last year, with new fashion brands popping up and trusted cycling brands bringing out inspired women’s ranges. The change is centred on image. I am sure that bike brands Assos and Gore have made leaps and bounds in technology, but the fastest movement is the fusion of function with form. Bicycles are becoming works of art, race teams compete for the hottest kit and commuter fashion has turned the streets of London into a catwalk. There are always the moaners to bring the excitement down a peg or two, though. You know the type: the “real cyclists” who look down on this supposedly self-indulgent desire for beauty; or the lot who have ridden the same bike since they were born and swear you don’t need anything other than plastic bags on your feet and an old tent over your head when it’s wet. When the sustainable…

It's all about numbers. More people die, get seriously injured in cars than on bikes.
Plus the motorcycle community has better lobyists.
You could always get a early 60's car or older before they came with seatbelts and drive without a seatbelt legally.
