dress in layers. i find i personally need clothes that breath. some clothes are so windproof they turn me into a greenhouse or suana, making me wet and then freezing me. for me it is important that clothes breathe, but keep me warm.
i like performance, but other makers offer the same types of things. for very cold rides under 20F, i use a base layer of a compression layer. this is a tight fitting synthetic material. then i use wind tights (tights with windproof pnls on front, but open in back to breath) i use a turtle neck and then my windfront jacket (again windproof front, polypro back to allow it to breathe). i have a set of pearl isumi gloves and a performance polypro helmet liner. put on a set of glasses to keep the cold air out of my eyes and i’m good to go. i dont like anything over my mouth and nose as the moisture freezes and ends up making me colder or even frostbiting me.
There are a few things you’ll need to have when you start cycling. The first and most obvious is a quality bike that fits you! While that might seem like a no-brainer, plenty of people start out on bicycle equipment that are too small, or made with poor quality parts, just because they’re cheaper. The right fit and a well made bike can make your ride a lot easier, however. Don’t be tempted to bargain shop for your bicycle. Instead, buy one that will last you a long time. Once you have a bike that’s right for you, it’s time to get the other items that will help you become a regular cyclist.

My son wears cycle shorts butt naked but he refuses to wear underwear with them. Why ?
Reply:
Cyclingshorts or bibs are made to be worn without underwear. The chamois (the built in pad) is often made with anti-bacterial fabric and is designed specifically for contact with the skin. Wearing a layer between the shorts and skin will likely cause chafing, saddle sores, and all kinds of other irritation as the fabric will bunch up and get into uncomfortable areas. Both the chamois and shorts material will stretch and move with the motion of the cyclist where other materials won’t.
Mountain biking in cold weather has always been a challenge. The problem is that you’ll start out cold then warm up and break a sweat, making yourself wet. Then, when you travel downhill, the combination of wet skin and windchill will be quite chilling.
Below, you’ll find a list of the cold weather clothing that will make winter riding less of a bone chilling experience.
I have googled myself half-crazy and find little of interest. I have a couple of months to look, and it needs to be an outlet that can ship to/within the US. The funnier the better, but not obscene (South Park is a little over the line for Europe I think).
